Delhi High Court refuses to interfere with DU open book exams for final year students - education

The Delhi High Court has said it would not interfere with Delhi University’s decision to hold open book online exams for final year students, but asked the varsity, UGC and the Centre to work out a solution to also enable disabled students to take the examinations.

The court said it was not going to interfere with DU’s decision as it has also decided to hold offline physical exams, once the present COVID-19 situation improves, for those students who could not participate in the examinations commencing from July 1.

A bench of Justices Rajiv Sahai Endlaw and Asha Menon gave the varsity, University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Centre time till June 11 to work out a solution after meeting representatives of students with various disabilities, including visual impairment, and listed the matter for hearing on June 12.

It also said that meanwhile all the students should prepare for the open book examinations, scheduled to commence from July 1, and not assume that it would be delayed due to these proceedings.

The court, in its order passed on June 9, said it was only looking to iron out problems faced by persons with disabilities in participating in the exams and added that their difficulties would be addressed by the time the examinations commence.

The bench also asked the Centre, UGC and DU to consider having another set of question papers ready to hold exams immediately after the open book examinations for those who could not sit for it. The order came on a plea moved by the National Federation of the Blind challenging the DU’s decision to hold open book examinations on the ground that it violated rights of students with visual impairments and other disabilities.

The Federation wanted DU to assess performance of the disabled students of final year on the basis of their performance in previous semester and internal assessment.

In the alternative, it suggested holding offline exams for such students after colleges reopen.

IBPS Recruitment 2020: 29 teaching and non-teaching vacancies notified, check details - education

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, or IBPS, has released an official notification for the recruitment of Professor, Associate Professor, Faculty Research, Hindi Officer, and others in different departments on its official website.

Candidates interested and eligible for the position will be able to apply online for IBPS Recruitment 2020 from June 10 to 30. However, the online registration process has not started yet.

IBPS has tentatively scheduled to conduct the online exam on July 19, 2020.

The recruitment drive is being conducted to fill 29 vacancies of Professor, Associate Professor, Faculty Research, and others. Out of which, 5 vacancies are each for Research Associate, and Faculty Research Associate, 4 for Assistant Professor, 3 each for Hindi Office, and Programming Assistant, 2 each for Professor, Associate Professor, and Analyst Programmer – Windows, and one each for IT Administrator, Analyst Programmer – Linux, and Research Associate – Technical.

Candidates will have to pay the online application fee of Rs 1000 on or before June 30, 2020.

Maharashtra HSC results 2020: MSBSHSE unlikely to declare Class 12 results today - education

Maharashtra HSC results 2020: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is not expected to declare the results of Maharashtra HSC or Class 12 examinations on Wednesday, June 10. Results will not be out because no notification has been released from the board about the declaration of the result yet. The board generally releases a notification about the declaration one day in advance.

It may be recalled that the state high court has in the past directed the Maharashtra government to announce HSC, SSC Results by June 10. Earlier, this year an official from the education department had also said the results of SSC and HSC board exams in the state are likely to be declared by the second week of June.

But this year results and examinations are being delayed throughout the country due to the spread of coronavirus disease.

Maharashtra HSC examinations were conducted before the lockdown began, while the Geography paper of SSC exams could not be held. The Maharashtra board in May cancelled the SSC Geography exam and said that the students will be awarded an average of the marks obtained in the other five subjects for the last paper.

Telangana TTWREIS Recruitment: Application begins for 160 vacancies of CBSE teaching posts - education

NIRF India Rankings 2020 to be announced tomorrow: HRD Minister - education

Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokriyal on Wednesday announced that the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2020 for Indian varsities and institutions will be released at 12 noon on Thursday, June 11.

Sharing this information, along with a video on his official Twitter account, Pokhriyal wrote, “Announcing NIRF Rankings 2020 tomorrow at 12 noon.”

The parameters on the basis of which universities and institutions have been ranked by the NIRF are: Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity and Peer Perception.

Last year NIRF had announced the India Rankings in the first week of April in which IIT Madras had topped the list of higher education institutes. IISc Bengaluru had come second and IIT Delhi was third in this list.

Among management institutes in the county, IIM Bangalore topped, IIM Ahmedabad came second and IIM Calcutta stood at the third place.

The release of NIRF India Rankings 2020 had to postponed due to the coronavirus disease outbreak in the country.

Rajasthan Home Guard Recruitment 2020: Apply for 2500 vacancies before July 9 - education

Rajasthan Home Guard Recruitment 2020: The Rajasthan Home Guards Department has opened the online application window for the Home Guards recruitment process on its official website. The online application process for the Rajasthan Home guards recruitment has started from June 10, 2020. Initially, it was supposed to start from April 7 but due to the spread of Coronavirus infection and lockdown, the application process was postponed. A notice regarding this has been uploaded on the department’s official website.

Interested and eligible candidates can apply for the positions online at home.rajasthan.gov.in on or before July 9, 2020, until 12 pm.

The recruitment drive is being conducted to fill 2500 vacancies of home guards. Applicants should be between 18 and 35 years of age.

Candidates will be shortlisted for physical efficiency test (PET) followed by physical standard test and medical examination.

No online classes for children from KG to 5th std: Karnataka government - education

Amid complaints about conduct of virtual classes, the Karnataka government on Wednesday decided to stop online classes for children from Kindergarten (KG) to class 5.

“Two decisions have been taken-online classes for LKG, UKG and primary classes should be stopped immediately. Also, collecting fees in the name of online classes should be stopped immediately,” Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar told reporters here.

He said,several complaints have been received regarding online classes, and he held discussions with experts, a body of private educational institutions and officials in this regard, and every one was of the opinion online classes cannot be an alternative to physical classes.

Discussions were also held on how to engage children during this period, with no clarity over the reopening of schools, he said.

A committee has been constituted under the leadership of Prof M K Sridhar to prepare guidelines on how to engage students and increase their knowledge, the minister said.

There has been pressure on the government to act, as parents have been complaining about online classes conducted by private schools even for kindergarten kids.

Further stating that the government had already issued a circular asking educational institutions not to hike fees on humanitarian grounds considering financial constraints of several people due to the COVID-19 pandemic and induced lockdown, Kumar said, if schools decide to reduce the fees amount, it will be a “very welcome move.” He noted that from June 25 SSLC (Class 10) exams were starting.

Before taking the decision he had consulted people from all walks of life, experts, representatives of political parties, the minister said.

“From June 25 to July 4, the exams will be held and safety of children is our utmost priority and we are taking all necessary steps in this regard.

Preparations for the exams are on in all districts, micro-level planning is being done,” he said, adding that Health, Transport and Home Departments have joined hands with Education department in this regard.
